This year, Flynn Lewis (‘26), a member of the Green Hope Men’s Golf team, won the conference Player of the Year award. This award comes just a few months after his August commitment to Lenoir Rhyne University, where he will continue to golf at the Division II level. The title of Player of the Year is an incredible honor and a testament to Lewis’s skill, passion, and extreme dedication to his sport.

Lewis comes from a family of golfers, including his older brother, Jake Lewis, a Division I golfer at UNC Greensboro, and younger sister, Holly Lewis, who also currently plays for Green Hope on the Women’s Golf Team. Lewis has been playing since the fourth grade, but says that he “didn’t really start taking it seriously and playing competitively until freshman year.” He has been training diligently since, averaging about an hour and a half of time, dedicated just to practicing golf daily. He says, “I spend a lot of time working on consistency and my short game,” which he relies on the most in his overall game.
Across just the past 18 months, Lewis has played in 23 tournaments, against 427 competitors, and his scoring average was a 75.4 (TUGR). It is clear he did not win this award by sheer luck; His incredible hard work and devotion to perfecting his sport is what earned him the title of Player of the Year. He says, “It feels really rewarding to achieve this, especially knowing how much work I’ve put in over the past few years. It means a lot to be recognized.” He also acknowledges that he could not have achieved this without the encouragement of some special people. “I am really thankful for my teammates and coaches who have supported me,” he added.
Lewis also says that the reason he likes golf so much is because of his natural competitiveness. “I enjoy the challenge.” He states, “I like that it’s you versus the course, and every round is a chance to push yourself to do better.” This improvement-oriented mindset and constant drive towards betterment have played a key role in his success and progression as a player through the years.
The Player of the Year award is a big milestone in his continuing career, and in regard to the award, Lewis states, “It motivates me to keep improving.” This motivation will carry into his collegiate golf career and help propel him forward as he makes new strides at Lenoir Rhyne University next season. Lewis says that he is “excited to keep going and see how far I can take golf.” Across his four years at Green Hope, Lewis contributed so much to Green Hope’s Men’s Golf Team and will be sorely missed next year.
