Down by Green Hope’s football stadium lies an entrance to the massive, state-of-the-art Cary Tennis Park. Boasting 4 pickleball courts and 32 championship courts, the park was named Municipal Facility of the Year in 2025 by the Racquet Sports Industry magazine. This type of facility is clearly difficult to find, so what makes Cary Tennis Park so special?
The benefits provided to the community by the park are numerous, from providing easy recreational access for residents of Cary and nearby areas to generating significant revenue through tourism by routinely hosting professional tournaments.
The history of Cary Tennis Park is linked to that of Green Hope High School. The first 8 courts were built in 2000 by the Town of Cary in partnership with Green Hope on the school’s property. The facility then expanded in 2002, costing a total of $6.88 million across two phases. Since then, it has provided the school with a space for its physical education classes and tennis teams. In the following years, new additions were made to the park in 2016 and 2022, each adding a covered court facility and renovations to the courts.
Nearby residents of the park have access to free walk-up play on the park’s outdoor courts, as well as tennis lessons and programs offered by the Town of Cary year-round.
Another benefit of the park is the revenue it brings through tourism. As the largest tennis venue in the state, the park makes around $3 million in total economic impact throughout the community each year, according to the Town of Cary website’s Dec. 2025 release. The park hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including professional, collegiate, amateur and youth tournaments. The stadium court, located directly in front of the main building, serves as the site for high-profile professional and collegiate competitions. In 2025, parts of the Atlantic Tire Championships (ATP Challenger Tour), the ITA All-American Championships and ACC Tournaments took place on the court. For sports fans, having the park nearby means that they never have to go far to watch a game.
Walking around the expansive park, visitors will notice another aspect of the park, intertwined between the well-maintained tennis courts. Scenic walking paths and wooden bridges make it a great spot to relax or run.
The vastness and accessibility of Cary Tennis Park make it a cornerstone of the community, a fact reflected by the constant bustle of visitors. The value that its well-maintained and beautiful leisure spaces, tournaments, and educational opportunities bring is clear, as is the addition it makes to the image of Cary.

Leah, thank you for this thoughtful story.
As both a former journalist and someone who now helps tell Cary’s story, I really appreciated how you captured what makes Cary Tennis Park meaningful to the community.
For your first year with the GH Falcon, this shows a strong instinct for local storytelling. Keep writing- stories like this matter!
