After awaiting the continuation of the “Zootopia” franchise for over nine years, “Zootopia 2” was finally released on Nov. 26th, 2025 in the USA, bringing thrills and excitement to fans abroad. While endless crowds start to gather in front of movie theatres, lovers of “Zootopia” hustled to grab a snuggly blanket, sneak in a warm mug of hot chocolate, and enjoy the unforgettable film with their friends and family.
With the official release of “Zootopia 2,” many critics view the sequel as an overall success, living up to its expectation and expanding the world of Zootopia, as well as introducing new partnerships.
Students at local high schools also had good things to say about the film. Mokshita Paadhuru (‘29), a freshman at Green Hope, stated “Zootopia 2 was actually really good. There was a lot of plot and it kept me entertained the whole entire time.” Mahi Veeramachaneni (‘28), another local high school student and fan of the franchise, said “Zootopia 2 was a very enjoyable movie and a good continuation to the first movie. I love how the movie showed the progression of their friendship into a deeper bond, especially when Nick admitted that he cared about Judy.”
Many fans were especially excited about the seemingly developed romance between detective Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. With this new addition brought in the sequel to “Zootopia,” “WildeHopps” fans were delighted to witness their growing partnership and bond. Though Disney hasn’t confirmed anything so far, the company left the movie on a cliffhanger, sparking debates among fans who hope for both partners to remain friends and those who wish they will become a couple.
As far as the plotline goes, many admirers still believe the first movie reigns supreme. Veeramacheneni observed, “While the songs and the background music were really good, I think the first movie had better songs and background music.” Paadhuru added, “I would recommend it [Zootopia 2] to other people but you absolutely have to watch the first part.” Being first introduced as an American animated buddy cop comedy film, the first installment had built the dynamic duo of Nick and Judy, while successfully delivering the main theme of overcoming prejudice and challenging stereotypes. Since it laid the foundation for the sequel and was a massive hit, some feel the sequel was successful, but not as iconic as the first film.
However, many still enjoyed the sequel and praised the various plot twists and betrayals portrayed throughout the two-hour film. Veeramachaneni remarked, “I also love how the movie had lots of plot twists, which made it live up to the first movie. Overall, the movie was really interesting and I am excited for the next movie!” Similarly, Paadhuru noted, “There are so many plot twists and betrayals as well. Overall it was a very good movie and I would recommend it.” The shocking plot is what makes the movie a solid sequel according to fans.
As “Zootopia 2” finishes its run in cinemas, many remember the unforgettable moments cherished while watching the sequel– from WildeHopps’s upcoming romance to the sudden plot twists between the protagonists and antagonists. After gaining the hearts of many across the globe, a reunion of the Zootopia crew is anticipated for the future.
