Shreya Ravi (‘24), Green Hope’s own actress, known for her role as Wednesday Addams in the Addams Family musical was nominated and performed for the Triangle Rising Stars competition. Selected as one of the top 20 out of the 100 applicants, she performed at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) on Thursday, May 19

Shreya has been a part of the Green Hope Theatre company since her freshman year and has participated in every Green Hope musical production. Her fascination with the art is much older than that. “I have always been interested in theatre, but I was finally able to do it at Green Hope.”

Shreya’s dedication to the company is apparent. She has performed in every Green Hope Theatre Company production since the 2020 musical review. This year’s spring musical production, the Addams Family, required hours and hours of dedication. “For the musical, we rehearsed from January until the show at the end of March. Rehearsals were every day from 2:30-5:00, with some Saturday rehearsals closer to the show,” said Shreya.

Those hours increased drastically after her nomination for the Triangle Rising Stars competition. “For the show at DPAC, we had rehearsals every day for a week for four hours (with a five hour rehearsal the day before). We practiced dancing, choreography and had an acting workshop that all helped us learn the numbers and improve our solo songs.” It was grueling, but the outcome was worth it.

With the competition complete, Shreya can now reflect on her nomination. “I feel so grateful for the opportunity I was given. I met some of the most talented, kind people over the course of that week and I was able to improve so much as an actress. Being recognized in a program like this is something I am so thankful for!”
