In life, work often goes overlooked. Some people don’t know how hard everyday jobs are, and one of the most underappreciated is that of a mother. Mother’s Day exists to celebrate a role that has been underappreciated, to pamper a group of people who work hard every day, and, most importantly, to love the person who has helped make many people who they are today.
This Sunday, May 10, is Mother’s Day 2026, a day when mothers around the world will get to rest and relax after long days of seemingly endless work. Working at jobs, completing tasks at home and especially taking care of a child is exhausting for even the hardest of workers, so this day is more than well deserved for mothers who work hard for their children. But even though on the surface, this day also means a lot more to them than just a day to unwind without any work.
A substitute teacher at Green Hope who happens to be a mother and grandmother, Catherine Fancher, exclaimed, “It’s really fun to stop and take inventory of my greatest gifts, my kids. So that’s what it is for me.”
This day is also an important moment for the lifelong partners of these moms who have supported them through thick and thin, as Samuel Bernhard, a teacher at Green Hope and father, stated, “It’s a valuable opportunity to celebrate my wife for this role that she has filled. Seeing how we have grown into parents, and she has become a mother who loves our child, is very meaningful to me.”
Along with this day being meaningful and important to fathers and mothers, the person whom they work hard for and the reason that they even have these titles in the first place, the children also appreciate the day uniquely. Cassidy Amber (‘29) shared, “I feel like Mother’s Day is a really special time to take notice and understand that we need them.”
Whether Mother’s Day is meaningful to someone because of their kids, spouse, or mom, this time is for people to reflect on those who have always provided for someone else. So no matter where anyone lives or what job they do, it’s important to stop and celebrate one of the most important jobs in the world, being a mother.
