It isn’t a well kept secret that co-stars Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney are keeping their distance from one another, with speculative drama thrown in the air regarding the two. After recent press tours and the season premier of Euphoria season 3, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that the two have something going on. As of now, neither party has released an official statement, but thoughts of poor political alignment or possible infidelity is putting a wedge between Zendaya and Sweeney.
Since Euphoria’s release, actress Sydney Sweeney has checked into numerous movies and TV series, some of which have been nominated for awards, such as The White Lotus. But, the rise in fame did not come with a rise in popularity, Sweeney received backlash for her appearance and apparent catering towards a certain audience after Euphoria’s release. Still, there were those that held on stating phrases of comfort, such as “my body my choice”, because if it is ultimately her choice then why should it concern others? These were the likely questions that circulated the heads of fans, but they would soon break away too.
In June of 2025, Sweeney was rumored to be dating Scooter Braun, a former musical talent manager, who is no stranger to scandals. Back in 2019, Braun poorly managed Taylor Swift’s music causing discourse to rise between them. Braun, reported by Taylor Swift, sold her catalogs to SB projects, a music company. When Swift finally outed Braun on his poor management, other artists began following suit with artists such as, Kanye West and Demi Lovato.
Sweeney also had a controversial ad posted last year that didn’t sit well with viewers. The American Eagle ad posted in July of last year sparked its own outrage. The “Good Jeans” ad was published at the same time as the GAP x KATSEYE collaboration, which led viewers to compare the two. From Sweeney’s blonde hair and blue eyes and Katseye’s globally diverse gene’s, racial wars started to take arms.
Online personalities bashed Sweeney and American Eagle after the ad because of certain underlining narratives. The title of the ad “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans”, the use of jeans to play on genes, appeared racially charged. Sweeney later had an interview with PEOPLE magazine sharing her thoughts on the audience’s reaction,
stating how she didn’t support the views people put on her and is against hate. Still, with the pool of controversy surrounding her, it is no surprise that Zendaya is choosing to keep her distance. As a registered Democrat and Sweeney being a Republican, most of their views likely don’t match up.
Nothing about the situation is being spoken about, with both parties likely choosing to keep it professional and promote the show. As the final season of Euphoria comes to a close in the near future, both castmates will part ways to work on other projects, keeping Euphoria in the past.
