Tiger Woods is a name where even for those who have never swung a golf club know of his success. Over the years, Tiger has amassed over 82 PGA tour wins, with 15 of those being major tournaments, Woods’ dominance throughout his career is well-known and accepted. Although his golf career may be vast, Woods career with the law and personal struggles has been lifelong, with Woods facing multiple arrests and scandals throughout his career. Most recently, Woods has found himself in deep waters after an accident this past Friday. He flipped his SUV after clipping the back of a moving trailer, with police on the scene addressing his physical impairment and lack of self awareness. Luckily, this event led to no people being harmed, with Woods himself leaving with only minor injuries.
Unfortunately, this incident is not Woods’ first run-in with the law, as in 2017, he found himself in a similar situation. He was stopped for reckless driving, and later, officers discovered Woods was under the influence of opioid painkillers. Many believe that his abuse of substances is due to his long list of 35 surgeries that he has had throughout his career. Along with this, Woods has had a long battle with sexual addiction, ending up in rehab for it in 2009 after divorcing his wife Elin Nordegren, ending the marriage after admitting he cheated on his wife over 120 times.
This news comes even more devastatingly, as Woods was set to play in this year’s Masters tournament at Augusta National. Earlier this week, he released a statement addressing the problem saying, “I know and understand the seriousness of the situation… I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.” This comes as Woods’ son, Charlie Woods, prepares to enter his first year at Florida State University. Both hope to find time outside of the spotlight, with Charlie refusing to speak on the matter.
Golf is a sport that continues to change, with the influx of new fans many wish to see what the world’s best golfer has to offer. Unfortunately, as the first round of the Masters passes, Woods has expressed that he will not be attending. No one knows what the future holds for the world of golf, but many hope to see the return of Tiger Woods.
