Senior Rachael Baldyga (‘26) currently holds program records in home runs, batting average, RBIs and slugging percentage. She recently reached the milestone of 100 career hits during a 4-3 win over Leesville Road High School. Going three for four in last Thursday’s game against the Pride, Baldyga’s 101st hit was a game-winning home run to propel the Falcons to their fifth victory of the 2026 season.
In her four years at Green Hope, she has been an integral member of the varsity softball team, and has spent three of those years in the role of captain. This past fall, Baldyga committed to Christopher Newport University to continue her softball career while studying kinesiology. Looking ahead to college, she shared, “I’m excited to take everything I’ve learned at Green Hope to CNU. I also can’t wait to meet new people and hopefully have success at the next level.” Currently in her final season as a Falcon, she leads the team in batting average, on base percentage, home runs, hits and slugging percentage.
The game in which Baldyga reached 100 hits was a close one for the Falcons. With the game tied at three in the top of the 7th, Baldyga’s solo home run to left field put Green Hope up 4-3, with the defense closing out the game in three quick outs to secure the win. Describing her thoughts after the milestone, she said, “It was an amazing mix of relief and excitement, and getting to celebrate that with my teammates was amazing.” Going into the game with 98 hits and plenty of expectations, Baldyga felt that she could move on with the season and focus on continuing to enjoy great games once that number hit 100.

In the past four seasons, Green Hope has had three different softball coaches. Despite an inconsistent staff, the encouraging environment has remained constant throughout Baldyga’s career. Reflecting on her experience within the program, she said, “Each coach has taught me something different. There’s something special about getting to experience my senior year with my dad as my coach.” Furthermore, Baldyga noted how special it was to look back on her growth as a Falcon. “My teammates have always been extremely supportive and uplifting. It has been cool to reflect on starting as a freshman and having seniors to help guide me and now being the senior and role model.”
With such a successful high school career coming to an end, Baldyga spoke about the many lessons she has learned along the way, saying, “Having this milestone is a great way to showcase all my hard work, but it’s also taught me that focusing too much on stats can be extremely stressful, so just relaxing and enjoying the game is super important.” She also emphasized how the supportive team culture and “feeling of family” allowed her to enjoy her time on the field and feel confident in her leadership.
Commenting on the future of the program after she graduates, Baldyga mentioned Green Hope’s first JV softball team and shared her hope that having a JV team will allow Falcon softball to grow and continue to attract great players and people. Concerning her senior season, Baldyga described it as “one of the best seasons our team has ever had” and went on to express her excitement to see how the team handles the success in the future.
In reaching the incredible milestone of 100 hits in four years at Green Hope, Baldyga has secured her legacy in Green Hope softball history, and hopes to continue to make an impact during her collegiate career.
