Music is an art form that can express a wide spectrum of emotions. From jazzy blues to soulful requiems, each note captures the audience’s gaze. With music being so ingrained in today’s culture, numerous band students at Green Hope and different middle schools are practicing their musical skills in preparation for their upcoming concert. With their pieces nearly complete, they’re prepared to captivate their audience with a symphony of sounds.
The band concert at Green Hope will take place on Thursday, March 5, and will go from 5:30 to 7:55 pm. A plethora of different pieces of music will be performed by them on stage, including marches, modern classicals and rhythmic odes. Leading the performance will be the Davis Drive Middle School 7th-grade Concert Band, followed by the Green Hope Concert Band. Next will be the Green Hope Symphonic Band, the Davis Drive 8th-grade concert band and the Green Hope Wind Ensemble. The different students in their band courses have put in numerous hours of practice into each of their songs, and playing their pieces can not only be enjoyable for the audience but also for them.
When asked about the pieces he is performing, Liam Smith (‘29), a freshman in concert band, has stated: “They are all just very different from one another, and that creates a great variety of sounds and music which can be very pleasing to both the players’ and listeners’ minds.” Caleb Houg (‘29), a fellow freshman in concert band, added, “Well, it’s definitely difficult, but it’s difficult in a fun way. I think I enjoy most of them.” With a positive attitude and bright outlook on their pieces, the band students in Green Hope are sure to make an impression on their audience.
Not only are the students feeling excited about the music they’re performing, but the band teacher, Mr. Flowers, is also feeling confident about where they’re at for the concert. He has stated, “I think they are all in good shape, and they need to just make sure that they focus and concentrate and do all the little details that we work on every day to be successful.”
With schools other than Green Hope also performing, this is a great opportunity for not only Green Hope students to attend, but also students from different schools to attend and show their middle school pride. Each section, from the booming percussion to soft winds, will add its harmony to the symphony to warp the audience into a world of sounds, with each note leading their journey into the world of music.
