With Black Friday quickly coming to an end, people are starting to get ready for Cyber Monday. Cyber Monday is taking place on Dec. 1 this year and is expected to be one of the biggest online shopping events, with retailers like Amazon, Target, Walmart and Best Buy already preparing massive discounts across categories like fashion, electronics, beauty, home decor and more. With holiday spending projected to hit record highs, Cyber Monday has become the go-to moment for shoppers to get everything from TVs, kitchen supplies and everything else people want without even leaving their houses.

Cyber Monday was first introduced in 2005 by the National Retail Federation (NRF) after noticing a significant increase in online shopping the Monday following Thanksgiving, when people returned to work and searched for deals on their work computers. The term “Cyber Monday” was created to promote online shopping and quickly became the online version of Black Friday. At first, it was just a form of marketing, but it grew fast because of websites like Amazon, eBay, Target and more. In 2024, in the US, about 13.3 billion dollars were spent during Cyber Monday, making it the biggest online shopping day in the United States. The day became popular because it is way less stressful than going to a store.
Deals are the whole point of Cyber Monday. Without having to pick up a foot, exclusive deals await online. Brands like Amazon’s Cyber Monday Deals kick off on Nov. 29 and run through Dec. 1 when Cyber Monday actually starts. Amazon’s Black Friday sale started on Nov. 20, so its sale season ranges from Nov. 21 to Dec. 1 with all the exclusive deals. Many membership and loyalty programs will be the first to start the rounds of savings and early access to brand deals, including brands such as Nike, Abercrombie and Ulta, whose deals happen for members before they are released to the general public.
Cyber Monday was created to encourage online shopping, making it the equivalent of Black Friday, but it also gives the chance for small retailers to compete with big companies. Consider shopping early for deals, as brands often release sales earlier than the official date. Make sure to shop safely and avoid using public Wi-Fi for your transactions to avoid scams. In addition, be prepared with a list of what to buy since deals will run out. Some deals are exclusive to online retailers, and deals can be extended through Black Friday or even dropped lower for sellers to get rid of seasonal excess inventory.
