On Nov. 24, Canva is launching an education program for students ranging from kindergarten to high school. This Education Launch will allow students to access Canva Pro for free, which will enable students to use all the premium features of Canva that they had to pay for previously.
For the Canva update to work, students can use their school email to create an account and will automatically be Canva Pro, and any old accounts using school emails will get promoted to the Pro level. Teachers will also not have to show proof that they are an educator, and just have to enter their email.
This new Canva Education Launch will allow students to show more creativity and turn words into graphics that can be much more fun and beneficial for learning. Students will no longer have to worry about only picking the templates or designs that are free, and just be able to freely use everything that Canva has to offer. “The only times I don’t really like using Canva are when I have to look through everything I used to make sure it is free so that I can download it,” says Aarushi Vajrala (‘29), a frequent Canva user at Green Hope.
Once students gain access to Canva Pro, the usage of Canva in education could greatly increase, because many people believe that the creativity Canva offers is superior to a regular assignment, where there is no room for individuality or imagination. Ms. Wilson, the Green Hope school librarian, adds, “I think a lot of teachers like it because it allows students to be more creative on how they show their learning, and a lot of students like showing their learning that way versus writing an essay.”
Many students and teachers already like using Canva in their classrooms, so this education launch is hoped to be very popular and will encourage students to use Canva much more often. “I sometimes resort to Google Slides when I don’t have access to my sister’s Canva Pro, but it is much harder to work with and has a lot fewer options,” says Aarushi. With the Canva Education Launch on Monday, students and teachers will have a brand-new tool to help teach, create and collaborate, adding a new layer of possibility to the learning experience.
