“Hold the doors open for everyone, “ said Brian Pollard, a senior at Green Hope High School. He is more than just a senior, though. He’s the Drama Club president and a well-known theatre student. Even so, there is a deeper story behind all of his accomplishments that makes him well-loved by his peers.
Pollard’s high school start was like any other freshman’s. He was nervous and didn’t know anyone walking in. However, during orientation, he was drawn to a theatre booth, which inspired him to try out for the fall play that year. Pollard got hired to be part of the tech crew, and he had a lot of fun. He was also inspired by the performing arts when he visited the Drama Club for the first time as a freshman.
Pollard has been part of many plays and musicals. One of his favorite plays was “Almost Maine,” where he had much admiration for the setting and structure. But his true favorite of the shows he’s been in was the “SpongeBob Musical.” He auditioned for the roles of SpongeBob Squarepants, Patrick Star and Squidward Tentacles. When Pollard found out he was going to play SpongeBob, he was thinking, “Whoa, this will be crazy.” Some reasons that he enjoyed being in the musical were that it was fun and the whole plot was unserious.

Pollard has a deep love for the performing arts. Theatre teacher Peter Comperatore even said, ”Brian is incredible, productive and kind in the theatre.” However, despite Pollard being serious about performing plays and musicals on stage, it won’t be his full-time career in the future. Pollard said, “My full-time career will be focused on vet medicine. But I will try to use the skills I learned from the theatre arts.”
“Meet as many people as possible,” Pollard said, offering this advice to those trying to make new friends. He went from a regular freshman student trying to find where he belonged to an awe-inspiring senior with a purpose to excite young people to follow in his footsteps. It’s okay not to know anyone when walking into a new experience, but as can belearned from Pollard, finding the right people can give a person their own right purpose.
