Handling Stress: Healthy Habits for the Year

Neely Mallik, Student Life Editor

The school year is off and running! Back to school is an exciting time, but unfortunately can be associated with a lot of stress. Balancing school, sports, clubs, work, and life is no easy feat. Luckily, the Green Hope Falcon is here to supply you with some back to school healthy habits to help keep you from getting overwhelmed this semester.

Get a planner

Our first suggestion is to get a planner. Whether it be a calendar, agenda, or notebook, having a way to organize your workload will be beneficial. Being able to write down due dates, club meetings, or whatever you’ve got on your plate will help you keep track of what needs to be done. Seeing your schedule written out in front of you will ensure that you’re less likely to forget something. It always feels good to check things off a list, so having a planner will allow you to get some instant reward out of your productivity.

Spend time doing hobbies/things you enjoy

Another important tip to keeping your life balanced in the back to school season is spending time doing things you enjoy. Prioritizing some time to yourself is an important factor when it comes to balance. Without things to look forward to or some downtime, productivity becomes a more challenging task. Being overwhelmed regularly results in a decrease in productivity. So, in order to make the most of your time at work, it is important to lay aside some time in your day to relax and do things you enjoy.

Eat good meals and drink water

Being in a healthy physical condition will positively impact the way you feel, your mood, and your ability to be productive. Without solid meals and lots of water, you won’t be feeling your best.  In order to make the most of your time, you need to be able to feel good and be focused when need be. Preparing yourself three meals a day, and packing water with you at all times are steps you can take to ensure a healthier lifestyle. It can be hard to remember or give attention to these things when there is so much going on, but don’t let that degrade the importance of these factors!

Overall, it is understandable that things get overwhelming and busy during this time of year. Allow yourself to adopt some of these healthy habits to improve your mental and physical health throughout this back to school season, and beyond!
