Through her career in high school wrestling, Emily Jenkins (‘25) has broken boundaries on the team and forged a path for female wrestlers at Green Hope. In her final year, she accomplished a goal that all wrestlers strive for: Achieving 100 wins in her career. Jenkins walked the GH Falcon through her path to this goal.
Emily Jenkins has been wrestling for only four years, making her numerous accomplishments even more outstanding. She achieved her 100th win at regionals this year, winning her first match by tech fall. A technical fall, or tech fall, is an automatic stop when a wrestler is ahead by 15 or more points at any time during the match, similar to a mercy rule. After this decisive win, Jenkins briefly celebrated with friends and family but still had work to do at regionals.
All athletes have someone they admire or model their style after. Jenkins spoke on this, and stated, “I look up to Kennedy Blades.” A strong icon for women’s wrestling, Kennedy Blades is an Olympic wrestler, winning silver at the 2024 Summer Olympics. She went to Iowa State University, currently ranked third in the nation for wrestling. Kennedy Blades is a great wrestler that all women in the sport can aspire to be like.
With the wrestling season now over, Jenkins gave her opinion on her season as a whole. She stated, “I expected this season to go a bit better than it did but I’m still happy with the outcome.” While she may not have done everything she wanted to do in the season, she certainly achieved a lot and had a great end to her high school wrestling career.
Reaching the end of her high school career, Jenkins discussed her plans for the future. Rather than a traditional path, she wants to use her abilities to teach others, and said, “I plan to coach for a bit after high school.” Putting her strengths to good use, Jenkins will continue to create a path for female wrestlers, helping to strengthen their growing influence in the sport.
Jenkins has had a powerful impact at Green Hope, winning many crucial matches on her way to 100. At the very end of her last season, she achieved this goal, finishing on a high note and solidifying her place as an incredibly influential and memorable Green Hope wrestler.
