One of the three fastest distance runners in the conference, Seamus O’Driscoll (‘25) has had an incredible history with Green Hope cross country and track. He is now taking his skills to the next level, committing to Davidson College in North Carolina for track and cross country. The GH Falcon had the opportunity to talk to O’Driscoll about his recent commitment and what went into this choice.
O’Driscoll has continued to improve over the years and hopes to continue this success. He started running in 8th grade and has clearly seen the results of his hard work. He also talked about his future and stated, “Hopefully I’ll run four years of track and cross country and then we’ll see what I want to do after that.” O’Driscoll runs the mile and everything longer than that, linking back to his skill in cross country.
Without dedication and hard work throughout the years, O’Driscoll would never have been able to reach the level he is at. When asked about the work put in outside of school practices, he said, “I’ll do a lot of core strength and hip exercises. I also just run a lot.”
Every athlete looks up to someone for guidance or help along their journey. Whether that be a parent, professional athlete or sibling, there is someone that helps them succeed. O’Driscoll is no different, and he stated his motivation came from Cole Hocker, an olympic athlete for the United States and winner of gold in the 2024 Summer Olympics in the 1500 meter event.
College is always a big decision, but playing a sport as well makes the decision even more important. As to why he chose Davidson, he said, “It was really a good balance of athletics and academics and it’s a nice team. They have some pretty good up and coming athletes.” O’Driscoll made a great choice, keeping in consideration both his athletic and academic prowess.
In his final year of high school athletics, O’Driscoll still has some time to improve his athletic performance before reaching new heights and performance. He is looking forward to “being competitive at a state level and trying to get on the podium.” He has big goals for his final year and wants to go out with a bang at Green Hope.
O’Driscoll’s skill and dedication to his craft have already taken him far and are now taking him even further. He is sure to succeed at Davidson and reach new levels of performance, surpassing boundaries and achieving his dreams.
