The Green Hope booster club raises approximately $240,000 every year, providing funds that fuel the athletics program at Green Hope–far surpassing the $1000 WCPSS provides the school annually.
The club is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the athletic program by acquiring sports facilities and equipment. It aims to implement the vision of the Athletic Director, Coach Robbie St. John while fostering school spirit among the student body and equally supporting all varsity and junior varsity athletic programs.
Anita McClernon serves as the President of the booster club. She collaborates with school administration, student-athletes and the community surrounding Green Hope to encourage participation and raise awareness of Green Hope’s athletic activities. McClernon acts as a spokesperson for Green Hope Athletics, working to ensure the program has the necessary funding to support student-athletes.
“The booster club is vital because it supports the athletic program through fundraising for successful athletic operations and capital improvements. We also foster a sense of community by engaging with local businesses.” She added, “The club is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all athletes at Green Hope and enhancing school spirit by sponsoring fun and engaging activities at our athletic events.”
Having an abundance of Green Hope faculty, parents and students as part of the booster club; members find the organization a joy to be a part of. Becci Monge, the Co-Chair of Sponsorship of the club said, “I enjoy meeting new Green Hope parents and working hand-in-hand together! We live in a community where students, adults, and seniors are involved in sports and are fabulous sports fans.” McClernon echoed this sentiment, stating, “My favorite part of being involved in the booster club has been getting to know the student-athletes and their families. We have a wonderful community here, and my role has allowed me to be more engaged with the school and its activities.”
The club supports all sports offered at Green Hope but has recently focused efforts on assisting the new women’s flag football team with brand-new gear. The booster club has also upgraded its concession stands, attracting more students with incentives such as free popcorn refills at games.
Community members support the Green Hope booster club by purchasing the Booster Passes for athletic events, donating, buying from concessions and volunteering at booster club events. The Green Hope booster blub is the backbone of the athletic program. Without the efforts of this club, the athletics facilities and student-athletes would not be where they are today.
