Chants, bright neon themed clothing, that is what students will see throughout the week at school sporting events. Schools within the Southwest Wake Atlantic Conference (SWAC) contain teams that often compete with Green Hope. Different schools’ student sections will often try to match the spirit of Green Hope’s student section. This increased competitive energy supports student athletes and makes games more entertaining for attendees. Falcon Frenzy is a school club with the goal of increasing participation and pride for sports.
Student Section leaders will be at the front of the bleachers with helmets, large signs and loud cheers. The club consists of upperclassmen and is led by Green Hope’s Data Manager and Club Adviser to the Falcon Frenzy Ms. Sommer Allen. While the club only existed at Green Hope for three years, Falcon Frenzy is already a major part of Green Hope.
Being able to meet a variety of students each year keeps Ms. Allen engaged. As Falcon Frenzy finds its roots at Green Hope the club has expanded from only having nine students as section leaders last year to almost doubling having 15 student leaders.
Ciara Wiseman (’25) is the president of Green Hope’s Student section and this is her first year in the club. A big aspect of the club is selecting themes and chants. “We come together and have meetings where we brainstorm fun and appropriate chants and themes,” shared Wiseman. “A main focus of these brainstorms is to figure out what students would actually participate in.” Since student participation is an important part of the club, some themes that students participate in are “Adam Sandler, Frat and 80’s”. Having chants where the student section is loud and engaged is a crucial part of the club. There are many different chants that vary from, “I believe that we will win,” to chants that were created from TikTok trends such as, “Brr it’s cold here there must be some alphas in the atmosphere.”
A member of Green Hope’s Varsity Volleyball team, setter Chloe Burbage (’28), has played volleyball for five years and currently plays for Nc Volleyball Academy. Burbage spoke about how she feels the student section supports the Volleyball team during a game. “It really helps with the momentum and the flow of the game and I feel that it is a good thing that they are there as the team feels supported. They go all out with the themes and are always chanting and cheering us on,” she said.
Burbage also expanded on how she feels how High School Volleyball games differ from her Middle School experience at Riverwood Middle School in Clayton North Carolina. “For Middle School there were maybe 10 people all spread out and nobody really came together and showed their school spirit and support,” Burbage said.
Communication is a key part of the Falcon Frenzy strategy. Not only to inform people about when the games are but also what to wear and chant. It’s Isabella Lunceford’s (‘25) first year being a part of Falcon Frenzy and she serves as the Social Media Manager. She spoke to how the club uses social media to best share their messages and said, “We use social media platforms to inform green hope students of themes, gamedays and any changes to the schedule.”
Sometimes social media is not the best way to reach students, as some students don’t have social media. In order to inform these students they have to resort to other methods. “The morning announcements are used to inform all students about games, themes and events,” Lunceford said.
Through the club’s efforts to promote student engagement and support athletes, Falcon Frenzy cultivates a positive atmosphere at Green Hope games.
