The need to dress to impress when school is out proves dire in the months of June, July and August. As the time for fun events and vacations approaches, many scramble to find the perfect outfits for a perfect summer. As you plan out what those outfits may be, here are five up and coming trends to help inspire your amplified style.
Jorts – While a controversial article of clothing for some, jorts prove to be coming back into style as we reach the mid 2020s. 2000s skater chic and basic 90s apparel are leading trends into today’s fast fashion. Some people have been resisting the urge to hop on the bandwagon but as we head into summer, jorts are making more appearances than usual. They are most typically styled with baggy T-Shirts or tank tops and can look especially good with a pair of old converse high top sneakers. It is also possible to wear them with long sleeves and sweaters for the mid-temperature days as summer comes to a close. Jorts have to be versatile in what they can be worn with and when they can be worn.
Crochet Dresses – Not only can knit dresses be used to cover up a bathing suit on a beach day, but it could also be used to achieve the perfect european summer look. Knit dresses were a staple of 60s and 70s hippie style as well as European summer wear. A common example of the vast influence that crochet dresses have is that they appear on the French and English fashion icon and creator of the Birkin Bag, Jane Birkin. In the 1969 film “La Piscine”, Birkin wore several outfits containing crochet maxi dresses which matched her typical boho style at the time. “La Piscine” chronicles 4 people spending a summer on the parisian coast. Although every character presents equally stylish apparel, Jane Birkin steals the show with her decorative crochet mini dresses.
Bandanas – As the heat threatens a dry spell on heads and hair alike, bandanas prove to be the perfect remedy. They shield your hair from absorbing the ozone layer, while serving as a cute and stylish way to spice up an outfit. On a hot day just shy of 100 degrees, a bandana holds a lighter weight than a baseball cap as well as a much more aesthetic presentation. You can even DIY your own bandana by using a tie-dye kit from an arts and crafts store and a piece of white cloth.
Graphic Tanks – For a casual day in the summer, graphic tank tops can show your personality while also keeping you cool. As you lounge around the house, or even want something stylish to work out in, graphic tees are the easiest way to kick off your outfit. Spaghetti straps, muscle tees, and undershirt material alike, any tank top can look just a little more festive with a cleverly placed graphic over top.
Overalls – A one set denim piece of overall shorts and a simple patterned tank top is the perfect summer outfit. For a little more flare at the beach, you could also use overalls as a coverup for your swimsuit. Although they may seem out of style, overalls bring what rompers cannot and that is color versatility. Working much like jeans, almost any accessory looks good with plain overalls allowing you the freedom and creativity to make different outfits with the same article of clothing. For a summer of less indecision, invest in a pair of overalls so you can spend less time stressing over an outfit and more time soaking in the sun.
The most important thing to remember when planning out the perfect summer wardrobe is to make sure everything you wear speaks authentically about who you are, not what everyone else wants to see. As you take these light suggestions, feel free to mix, match and have fun with your new experimental outfits.
