From fast food to drink places, the Triangle features an array of restaurants. Whether it be fast food, fancy sit downs or drink places, there’s always somewhere interesting to replenish one’s tastes in the area. One drink place in particular that grew to be popular ever since its recent opening in Cary on Mar. 22 is Sodabox. Just when people think they’ve seen every type of soft drink possible, Sodabox puts a clever spin on typical soda formulas. Instead of serving up traditional sodas seen at almost every other restaurant, Sodabox adds different mixtures of syrups and other ingredients to make the drink its own.
Sodabox is a pop up shop located in Cary that consists of craft fountain drinks and other treats. Here, customers will not only find a dozen types of well known sodas, such as the Orange Dream and the Lime in the Coconut, but also the option to customize these sodas. The customization of these sodas that help make Sodabox stand out as its own unique store.
So, how does a place like this work? Once customers are greeted by the cashier, they select well-known drinks like Coca-Cola, Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper, and add syrups such as blackberry, pomegranate or a fruit puree. Once that’s done, the fountain-poured sodas and syrup are mixed together and lined up on an impressive “flavor island,” served over pebble ice with a straw. Not all of the drinks at Sodabox fall under the same category, rather separated into different sections on the menu, including “Soda Love,” “Fresh Love,” “Energy Love” and “Customize Your Love.”
Under the “Soda Love ” section, customers will find drinks that are among the most popular menu items at Sodabox. Soda Love is where Mountain Dew, Dr. Pepper, Sprite, Root Beer, Cheerwine, Lemonade and Coca-Cola based drink products are found. The most popular drink found under this section is a Sprite-based soft drink mixture titled Pretty & Pink, which includes cherry, strawberry, raspberry and passionfruit syrups. Then there’s Spin It Like a Helicopter with Cheerwine, cherry syrup, and peach and mixed berry purees.
Although separate from the “Soda Love” section of the menu, fans of Monster Energy products can find their own desired drinks in “Energy Love.” Items such as the Giga Chad and the HypeBeast are a few of the Monster based drinks, consisting of specialized purees and fruits mixed into them. The Giga Chad, being the most popular in this section, consists of zero sugar Monster mixed with mangoes, raspberries and a peach puree. For the HypeBeast, its a mixture of regular Monster with pineapples, coconuts, peach puree and topped off with whipped cream.
On the top right side of the menu, customers will find drinks from both water or seltzer products. Similar to the other sections of the menu, the drinks are infused with purees and other fruits added onto them, although the main base of the drinks are plain water and seltzer.
For those who don’t see a particular drink combination that fits their taste, they can go to the left of the menu, section titled “Customize Your Love.” Here, customers can make their own custom drink in just three steps: choose a cup size, soda preference and other add ons to the drink, which could be anything from syrups, purees or diced up fruit.
As for students at Green Hope, sophomore Ben Spiegel (‘26) expresses how the variety of different sodas at Sodabox makes the place stand out. “For me, I love how Sodabox has so many different sodas and flavors for people to choose from,” he said. “The drinks are so much more fun and creative than any other place I’ve been to.” As Spiegel is an employee at Soda Box, he also describes the best aspects about his working experience there. “The other staff members there are fun to work with, as well as interacting with the customers that come throughout the day,” he said. “I also really enjoy making the drinks, since they all each have their own recipes.”
With Sodabox rising in popularity the last month, the place isn’t going anywhere for people who wish to try a specialized drink.
