DECA Looks Forward to Successful Year
September 15, 2022
DECA is a business organization that prepares students to be successful in the business world by teaching them aspects of business administration, management, and marketing. It also allows students to become leaders through building networks and learning the social aspects involved in the business world. DECA members at Green Hope do this by frequently holding workshops and meetings.
The 2021/22 season was an amazing year for Green Hope DECA. They were able to conduct more workshops and outreach opportunities that allowed them to gain more members than the previous year. DECA was also able to compete in in-person competitions again. Districts were held last December in Raleigh, states were held last February in Greensboro, and 12 members competed internationally in Atlanta. Green Hope DECA Co-President, Aakanksha Kulkarni (’23), explained, “Around 40 of our members attended the state competition in Greensboro last year, and 12 of those 40 qualified and attended the international competition, or ICDC, in Atlanta Georgia. We are incredibly proud of this turnout and we aspire to prepare even more members for future competitions.”
Regarding improvements for this year, DECA plans on having more specific topics for workshops and making them more interactive. Fellow DECA Co-President, Rupali Kishore (’23), said, “We can also offer more opportunities to go on educational and rewarding trips and more hands-on experiences.”
As far as DECA’s plans for the school year, they hope to increase membership and want member participation to be at an all-time high. Green Hope DECA advisor, Mr. Harrison Ray, stated, “Not only do we want more members, but we want them to compete at a higher level.”
