Green Hope’s tennis team recently added a crowning achievement to their long list of successes by winning the state championship against Ardrey Kell High School, a school located in Charlotte. Winning all three doubles matches to propel them to the championship, the team worked their hardest throughout the season and at the championship matches to achieve this victory.
Brij Bhatt, a staple for the tennis team, discussed the victory with the GH Falcon. Talking about the performance of the team, he stated, “We performed well, especially in doubles. We won all three of the doubles matches, which is what led us to win the championship. Throughout the season all of the top six played very well and won a majority of our matches.” Top notch performances from the team throughout the entire season led to them showing out at their final match of the season.
Contributing to the team’s success, according to Bhatt, was the experience of the team. He elaborated on this and described how, “The previous three years, we also made it to the finals so this time just felt normal. Ardrey Kell has not made it that far recently so we were better prepared mentally.” Showing the experience of the veteran team versus a school with more newfound success, it is clear why Green Hope prevailed.
While their season for this year has ended, there is still a lot of work for the team to do. Bhatt discussed what came next for the team. “The returning players will definitely have to keep practicing through the summer and offseason since we are losing three of the top six as they are off to college.” With many of the best players leaving, the other members will have to step up and continue the success of the team, leading new players in their journey to fill the big shoes left behind.
Despite half of the top players leaving, the team has a concise plan to elaborate on their success in the following year. Although Bhatt is leaving, he described the team’s plan as, “Maintaining their dedication to tennis as well as training hard and working to improve current weaknesses in everyone’s individual games.” Though it may sound somewhat simple, continuing their hard work and immense effort will allow the team to stay on their run of successes.
Through hard work, continuous improvement and repetitive victories, the Green Hope tennis team has taken their success to an incredible level, shining at the state championship level and bringing home gold for their school. The work of the players and the team as a whole will enable them to continue their rampage of success and stand out among Green Hope athletics.
