Phillips Farm; Corn fields, pumpkin patches and more!
Phillips farm is a popular fall destination for many green hope students. The farm’s main attractions are the haunted houses, but many people are also drawn to the haunted hayrides and spooky atmosphere. During the day the farm is filled with children playing carnival games or going through the corn maze.

NC State Fair
Rides, fair food and festival games. The NC State Fair next to Lenovo Center is one of the biggest activity hits of the season. This fair lasts 11 days starting October 17th. The fair experience can be filled with free entertainment but may be expensive if participating in certain activities. For kids there are child friendly rides, animal farms, fireworks at night and yummy treats such as deep fried oreos. There is something for everyone here and it is a fun night out especially with all the lights.
Pumpkin carving
Pumpkin carving is a common halloween season tradition. People go through the intricate process of gutting, carving, lighting and displaying pumpkins every year. Pumpkins can be carved into different faces such as silly characters or scary ghouls which makes it an enjoyable activity to showcase the halloween spirit.
Parks
During fall, the leaves start to change color making it a beautiful time of year to visit parks, enjoy the cooler weather and watch the seasons change. Here is a list of Cary parks worth visiting:
Bond Park: This is one of the largest parks in cary featuring 310 acres of land. During the year, Bond Park hosts events such as Spring Daze and productions at the amphitheater. The open fields give lots of area for seasonal activities such as throwing a football or flying a kite.
Thomas Brooks Park: Considering the amount of available fields, Thomas Brooks is a good location for soccer or volleyball. This park hosts soccer clubs from across North Carolina. Thomas Brooks accommodates families with smaller children through their multiple play areas.
Downtown Cary Park: This park is modern and is filled with lots of different components fit for all kinds of people. “The Nest”, a play area for children, contains two large cardinals kids can climb on. Throughout the park there are pavilions as well as gardens and a skywalk.
Davis Drive Park: Davis Drive Park includes various fields for organized sports usage. For non-athletes they have greenway trails and children’s play areas. The fields and courts host frequent pickup basketball and soccer games. The play areas feature sandboxes and play structure for the younger kids.
Movies
During this fall season, once it starts to get colder and people want to be cozy, movies are a great option for one to do. Whether it is inside on a couch with one’s favorite pillow or going out to the movie theater purchasing yummy treats, it is an enjoyable time.
All time classical movies are a hit that people rewatch. A couple favorable “oldies but goodies” include GhostBusters, The Great Pumpkin (Charlie Brown) and the Adams Family. There are many family friendly and gory horror movies to watch this year.
In and around Cary there are a large number of movie theaters that not only have new seasonal movies but also re-release previous movies from the upcoming Halloween spirit. Some new movies coming out in movie theaters soon are Smile 2 and Terrifier 3. Other than that movie theaters are putting on special reruns of movies including the Cary Theater with the 1978 movie Halloween on October 30th. Other movies such as BeetleJuice and Joker are out at the EVO movie theater in Cary.

Sunflower fields
A little further away in Raleigh, there is Dorothea Dix Park. This park is filled with fields of magnificent sunflowers, and is a great place for a day out. Dorothea Dix Park has pathways to walk and even other smaller attractions such as other seasonal flowers that make for a great picture or picnic spot. This is a fun place that everyone can enjoy as it is family and dog friendly!
