Love is in the air this February 14th, and nothing says Valentine’s Day like watching romantic comedies with that special someone. The GH Falcon has chosen some of the best rom coms to watch this Valentine’s Day.
10 Things I Hate About You
This film tells the story of Kat Stratford, a girl who isn’t interested in dating. This is unfortunate for her sister Bianca who’s not allowed to date anyone until Kat has a boyfriend. Bianca finds herself working with Cameron to set Kat up with bad boy Patrick Verona. The question remains, will Kat let her guard down and fall for Patrick?
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
This 20 year old rom com tells the story of a woman named Andie Anderson, a journalist writing an article on “how to lose a man in 10 days.” While on the hunt for a man amid this experiment, she meets Ben Berry, a marketing agent trying to secure a jewelry account. After being told the account was his if he could prove he can make any woman fall in love, he saw Andie as the key to the ultimate promotion. However, when they start going out both of their plans quickly begin to backfire.
Notting Hill
This film follows a London bookstore owner named William Thacker, who falls for a famous American actress named Anna Scott. After sharing a kiss over spilled orange juice, they begin to fall for each other. As the average guy and glamorous movie star draw closer together, they begin to struggle with their radically different lifestyles, fighting to make it work in the name of love.
Coming to America
This iconic 1980’s comedy tells the story of Prince Akeem, royalty of a wealthy African country known as Zamunda. His one wish is to have a wife who loves him for who he is. In order to escape an arranged marriage planned by his father, Akeem flees to America to find his queen, alongside his sidekick Semmi. While disguised as a fast food worker, he falls in love with a girl named Lisa, but struggles to reveal his true identity to her. Not only does “Coming to America” have the sequel “Coming 2 America” streaming on Amazon Prime, the movie also features the first ever mic drop from Eddie Murphy.
Clueless
“Clueless” is about a rich teenager named Cher, who is at the top of her high school’s popularity list. When transfer student Tai arrives, Cher decides to give her a makeover. However, when she becomes more popular than Cher and starts flirting with her crush, she recognizes her jealousy. While trying to become a better person and win over Josh, Cher goes on a wild ride of self realization.
When Harry Met Sally
Set in the year 1977, this film tells the story of college graduates Harry Burns and Sally Albright, who share a car ride from Chicago to New York. Fast forward ten years later, Harry and Sally meet again in a bookstore, as well as in the company of their best friends Jess and Marie. They attempt to stay friends but in the end, feelings catch up to them.
The Princess Bride
This fairy tale adventure tells the story of a swashbuckling farmhand named Westley who sets out on a journey to rescue his true love Princess Buttercup from the unpleasant Prince Humperdinck. The movie is based on the book by William Goldman of the same name, and stars Cary Elwes as Westley and Robin Wright as Princess Buttercup.
Crazy Rich Asians
“Crazy Rich Asians” tells the story of a woman named Rachel Chu who joins her boyfriend Nick Young to his best friend’s wedding in Singapore. She was quickly surprised to learn that Nick´s family is extremely rich and he’s considered to be one of Singaporeś most eligible bachelors. Rachel must now deal with jealous socialites, quirky relatives, and the worst of them all being Nick´s disapproving mother.
The Wedding Singer
Set in the year 1985, this film centers around Robbie Hart, a regular guy with a broken heart, who happens to have one of the most romantic jobs in the world: a wedding singer. After getting abandoned by his fiancé at the altar, he loses all hope in relationships, until he meets a girl named Julia who asks for his help to plan her wedding. He then falls in love with her and tries to win her over before she gets married.
The Notebook
This film tells the story of a 1940´s mill worker Noah Calhoun and rich girl Allie, falling desperately in love. Unfortunately, her parents don’t approve of her relationship. After the summer ends, Allie has to go to her hometown and they decide it’s best to break up. Years pass and Allie falls in love with another man, but Noah still isn’t over her. He returns years later and meets up with Allie, who is already planning her wedding, however, it becomes clear to them that their romantic relationship isn’t over.
