October is here marking the beginning of Halloween movie season! Something about watching a classic ghostly film or a lighthearted fall flick simply brings people joy during this spooky month. While we all have our favorite movies, here are a few suggestions to add to your list.

Hocus Pocus

After moving to Salem, teenager Max Dennison, his sister Dani, and their new friend Allison investigate an abandoned mansion on Halloween. After disregarding a superstitious tale, Max releases a coven of demonic witches that once resided in the abandoned property. To prevent the witches from becoming immortal and save humanity, the children must now take the witches’ spell book and restore peace.

Scream

This contemporary horror classic reinvented and revitalized the slasher-horror genre. A fear-masked knife maniac pursues high school victims in a middle-class suburb; the body count rises, however, the victims aren’t always who you’d expect.

Halloween Town

When Marnie and her siblings visit their grandma’s house in Halloweentown, they discover that they come from a family of witches. The town is the only area where supernatural beings can live a “normal” life. However, danger brews on Marnie’s 13th birthday as she discovers that she and her family are engaged in a battle against an evil trying to take over the world.

Coraline

A young woman named Coraline investigates her new home when she comes across a hidden door that leads to an alternate reality. Although it appears similar to her own she notices that it’s superior in many ways. Her parents give her extra attention and she gets showered in gifts. However, when her “Other Mother” and the rest of her parallel family attempt to keep her there permanently, she fights to return to her real life.

Nightmare on Elm Street

Freddy Krueger, a deformed monster, kills children by preying on them in their dreams. In this spooktacular movie, he haunts a number of teenagers and aims to murder them all. After noticing this phenomenon, Nancy comes to believe that a sinister family secret may hold the key to solving the mystery of the killings. Nancy and her lover Glen race to be able to solve it before it’s too late.

Halloween 

Six-year-old Michael Myers murdered his 17-year-old sister, Judith, in a merciless manner on a chilly Halloween night in 1963. He received a 15-year prison sentence. A day prior to his release, a 21-year-old Michael Myers steals a car and flees Smith’s Grove while being transported for a court date. He returns to the peaceful Haddonfield, Illinois, where he searches for his next victims.

Ghostbusters

 A group of scientists decide to become “ghostbusters” in order to fight the supernatural after losing their jobs as teachers at a NY University. They happen upon a doorway leading to another dimension, one that will let evil into the city. The Ghostbusters must now prevent the annihilation of New York.

Goosebumps 

Young Zach Cooper is miffed about relocating from the big city to a little community until he meets his neighbor Hannah. The teen is shocked to find out that R.L. Stine, the well-known author of the bestselling “Goosebumps” series, is Hannah’s enigmatic father. After accidentally letting all of his ghostly characters into reality, causing chaos across the land, it’s up to Stone, his daughter, and Cooper to put the menacing beasts back in the books where they belong. 

Nightmare Before Christmas

The movie centers on the misadventures of Jack Skellington, the popular pumpkin King of Halloweentown. He has fallen foul of scaring people in the “real world” on a yearly basis. Jack finds a new lease of life when he unintentionally stumbles onto Christmastown, which is full of vibrant colors and friendly people. He then hatches a plan to take control of Christmas by kidnapping Santa Claus and assuming the role himself. But Jack quickly learns that mice’s and skeleton men’s best-laid plans can sometimes go horribly wrong.

IT

An ancient, shape-shifting evil that emerges from the sewer every 27 years to prey on the town’s youngsters is about to confront seven teenage outcasts in Derry, Maine, and they are about to experience their greatest fear. The friends must overcome their own anxieties by working together over the course of one terrifying summer in order to combat the violent, sadistic clown known as Pennywise.

Casper 

Casper is a good-natured young ghost who calmly resides in a Maine house. James Harvey, a specialist, arrives with his teenage daughter, Kat, to speak with Casper and the other ghosts. Casper falls in love with Kat right away, but their blooming romance is strained not only by his transparency but also by his mischievous phantom uncles.
