Highly anticipated upcoming movies: Now through 2027

It’s always important to produce new films, whether they are sequels to an existing series, spinoffs of an existing series, or something completely new and original. The cycle of new films being released continues, with many new movies set to be released in the next couple of years.

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t

The “Now You See Me” series makes a magical return following the release of the sequel “Now You See Me 2” in 2016. “Now You See Me” is a movie series about four magicians who come together to perform an impossible feat while the main villain, Thaddeus Bradley, tries to expose their tricks. Despite it being almost a decade since the premiere of the second movie, Lionsgate made sure that the movie would be worth seeing, as many real, famous professional magicians will make an appearance in the movie, such as Mat Franco, Shin Lim and Piff the Magic Dragon. The movie is set to release on Nov. 14, 2025. It will star Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Morgan Freeman, Daniel Radcliffe, Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo and Woody Harrelson.

Avengers: Doomsday

Surprisingly, Marvel is releasing yet another Avengers movie, but with different heroes as the main characters instead of the original heroes of the Infinity War era. Iron Man died in “Avengers: Endgame” after trying to defeat Thanos, so he will not be a character in “Doomsday”. The only returning heroes in the movies will be Thor, Loki and Ant-Man. It doesn’t feel right for the movie to be named “Avengers” as almost none of the original Avengers will show up throughout the movie. The movie is set to release on Dec. 18, 2026. The movie will star Vanessa Kirby, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr. (as Doctor Doom), Pedro Pascal, Rebecca Romijn and Ian McKellen.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was a big success in the Illumination industry, so Nintendo decided that Illumination should produce a sequel to the movie. On Sept. 12, 2025, Illumination and Nintendo announced the official title and release date of the movie. The title is “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” and it is expected to be released on Apr. 3, 2026. The idea for this sequel is perfect because it was one of the only popular games that didn’t have much recognition in the first movie. No new cast updates have been released, so the stars of the first movie are the only known cast members as of now.

Shrek 5

After the Shrek franchise was done with its fourth movie, DreamWorks decided to make a comeback with a fifth movie, even though some would argue that it was unnecessary. Unless there are new main characters that Shrek and Fiona will pass the torch to, which is unknown as of now, Shrek doesn’t need a fifth movie after ending the series over fifteen years ago. The Shrek 5 movie was expected to be released in the summer of 2026, but was then delayed to Christmas of 2026, and is now set for the summer of 2027. The main stars are Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Zendaya as Shrek’s full-grown daughter.

Luke Nystrom is a sophomore at Green Hope High School and is in his first year writing for the GH Falcon, but he grew up in California and lived there for 14 years. He is a working magician who has been practicing for two and a half years. He loves to perform magic tricks, specifically card tricks during and outside of school. One of the key moments of his hobby is when he participated in the school talent show with his act. Some of his key traits to his personality are his kindness, his ability to make everyone laugh and smile when performing and the fact that he is hardworking, even when struggling. The key factors he sees in the people are their humor, kindness and willingness to talk and get along. He is ready to use his amiable personality to add to the GH Falcon staff this year.
