Friday nights at Green Hope High School aren’t only about football, but fond memories, tough games and electric crowds. After a tough season last year, the Falcons have stormed back into the season with five big victories this year. This energy has definitely transformed the stands with excitement and banners, and has made every game night an awaited celebration. This year’s school spirit has brought together students, athletes, advisors and parents, helping them create meaningful memories.
Ms. Jacobs has been a very energetic advisor for the Falcon Frenzy this year and perfectly sums up what Friday nights mean to students at Green Hope. “Friday night lights build community and are a wonderful way to get students involved and excited about something with school spirit. Football’s amazing turnaround this year is reflected in how students have carried school spirit,” Jacobs states. “I think it even helps with the turnout of other sports because it sets a tone and marks the way the sports season begins.” Her effort and excitement in describing this season have been represented in the stands. Every person dressed up in the bleachers, every chant that they have repeated, and every person who has cheered the team on has contributed to the culture of pride and involvement this year.
This energy has made a noticeable difference in the way students have made memories in the stands as well. Jack Kannar (‘27) has supported the Green Hope football team through many games and says he also feels that difference. “I love being there and seeing my friends play. It’s another outlet for me to spend time with people from school, and I really enjoy just being at games,” he says.
This shift in energy is just as powerful for players. Ivan Heltemes (‘26), who dominates the field on both ends as a defensive end, offensive guard and defensive tackle, says, “Football games mean everything. It’s almost the whole point of the sport, so seeing people turn out this year, my senior year, has been amazing. It all really comes down to the game; it’s what everyone sees and how everyone performs there that matters. Seeing this support helps build a good culture around Fridays and football.” His sentiments reflect the thoughts of many other players on the team; they are just happy to be there, play well and bring a good game every Friday for Green Hope.
From the sidelines where coaches strategize and the cheer and dance team show support, to the stands where students wave banners and dress up in a show of school spirit, Friday nights have become an unforgettable memory this year for the Falcons. They showcase the heart and determination of a school’s community coming together. Each win, cheer and celebration has proved that it is about more than the game, but a reason for students to gather under bright lights to create memories that will last long after the lights go out.
