If a zombie apocalypse broke out at Green Hope, which teachers would actually make it? Take a deeper dive into some of students’ favorite teachers to see who is built for survival and who might not make it past day one.
Ms. Davidson, a Health Science and Biomedical Technology teacher, might survive using her medical knowledge and athletic abilities. “I think Ms. Davidson would probably live long because she has enough of the skills to help if she or anybody else got injured,” says Mr. Basham, an Astronomy and Biology teacher at Green Hope. Although many teachers and students thought that she had what was necessary to survive, she wasn’t very confident that she would make it. “Probably not. I’m diabetic, so I’d have to have a lot of insulin.”

Mr. Basham, on the other hand, was very confident that he would survive. “Absolutely. How will I survive? Well, the first thing I would do if I were at school is track down Mr. Gaw because basically, I know I’m faster than he is. So I’d use him as bait and let the zombies get him first, and then I could escape to a safer place.” When asked if he would help others, he simply responded with, “Everybody except Mr. Gaw.” Despite having a solid plan, many students and teachers agreed that he would be the first one gone. “Basham would be the least likely because he’s actually a big old softy. He pretends he’s not, but he is. He would try to help people, and then he’d probably get eaten himself,” says Ms. Darden, from the classroom next door.
Unfortunately, most people did not believe that the English department’s Ms. Jacobs would last very long because she would not be very safe or take things seriously. “I think she would fight a lot and probably put herself in more risky situations,” says Ms. Davidson. Ms. Jacobs herself shared another reason she wouldn’t survive. “Honestly, no. I also don’t think I would want to [survive], is the thing. If I can’t have my little things that make my day better, like a nice coffee in the morning and taking my dog on a nice leisurely walk, I’m good… I have a tree nut allergy. My plan, if there was ever a zombie apocalypse, is to find out what they all taste like, and that’s what’s gonna take me out.”
Ms. Darden’s knowledge in biology and autonomy might actually help her find resources to survive and maybe even find a cure for zombies. People were evenly divided on her chances of survival. Ms. Darden believed that she wouldn’t be able to survive because she thought that she wouldn’t be able to make it to a safe and remote place in time. “If I were away somewhere, I could survive off-grid, but I don’t know if I could get off-grid. I can grill my own food, I could be in my own little bubble, but if there are too many people, I don’t think I could make it there because I don’t think I could run that far without dying.”

When it came to surviving the zombie apocalypse, Mr. O’Brien was the top pick among the students and teachers. Many people thought that he would last a while because he is resilient, well-equipped and would have a will to live. “I think it’s because he’s got tactics that not a lot of people know about,” says Ms. Davidson. Mr. O’Brien also thought that he would be prepared for similar reasons. “Firm believer in the Second Amendment, so I am well-equipped. In my house, I have also been making a bunker over the past five or six years.”
It is safe to say that Ms. Davidson and Mr. O’Brien would survive, while Mr. Basham and Ms. Jacobs would not survive, and Ms. Darden may or may not survive, depending on the situation. Whether they could survive for weeks or just a few minutes, it’s clear that every teacher has their own strengths and weaknesses in the case of a zombie apocalypse.
