At the beginning of every school year, students and schools across the country celebrate the tradition of homecoming, which brings together students, staff and the wider community of Green Hope. Homecoming signifies more than just a dance, but also school spirit and pride in being a Falcon. This tradition has grown to include the school spirit week and a pep rally.
This year, Green Hope celebrates its homecoming dance on Sept 27, with doors opening at 7pm. Students are required to present themselves with a school-approved student verification. This may include off-campus passes, student IDs, or active enrollment with Infinite Campus. The school’s homecoming theme this year is “Under the Sea.” This promises everyone the opportunity to witness colorful coral and aquatic decorations that will transform our school commons into a vibrant and engaging dance space. It is typical for students to get ready together, take pictures, and have dinner with their friends before arriving at the dance as well.
This week’s school spirit week invites students to dress up themed for Duo Day, Pajama Day, Jersey Day and Color War. Students who participate in the Spirit Week can enter a raffle during lunch to be selected for game participation during the pep rally, another opportunity to show Falcon spirit. This Friday, during fourth period, students may get the chance to participate in the pep rally, where different varsity fall sports teams are presented and honored for their efforts to enrich the athletic community at our school.
The day before homecoming, the Green Hope Football team plays Apex High School at 7 pm at home for their homecoming game. The theme for this game will be ‘White Lies’, where students can wear white and showcase their personal ‘little white lies’ via their outfit. The game will offer students an opportunity to cheer on their football team and enjoy a night filled with school spirit.
At its heart, homecoming is about connection. From dressing up for school spirit week and cheering on our football team during the homecoming game to dressing up for the actual homecoming dance itself, homecoming offers something for everyone. Although the traditions vary between schools, the goal of creating lasting memories and bringing people closer together remains the same.
