Playing against the only higher ranked team in Green Hope’s division, the girls volleyball team unfortunately fell to the Green Level Gators in a 3-0 match, putting up a fight every set but ultimately falling short. However, the volleyball team remains a powerhouse and looked at the loss not as a defeat but an opportunity for growth, as they look forward to facing Green Level again.
Captains Evie Carlson and Taylor Bruce (‘26) sat down with the GH Falcon to discuss what is next for the team and talked about how they plan to improve throughout the remainder of the season. Taylor first emphasized what happened in the game. “I think we were very flustered because it was our first time all season playing such a high level team,” stated Bruce. Carlson agreed, saying that this change led them to do “things we normally don’t do in game, and it kind of threw us off balance.”
Bruce then went on to describe how the team was feeling after the game. While they were obviously disappointed, she pointed out that they maintained a positive sense of teamwork. “We were upset for a bit, but we just have even more motivation to beat them next time. I learned to have a good sense of teamwork by knowing that this loss was on all of us. We win and lose as a team and we hold each other accountable,” stated Bruce, highlighting that even in defeat, the team stands together and continues to improve. Carlson added that the team still has a chance to get first in the conference, so spirits weren’t completely down, and the team was “really just focused on getting the win against Green Level when we play them next.”
Finally, they discussed the next steps for the team. “We plan to prepare by watching film, self-correcting and really focusing more in practice. I expect us to continue to have a great season and see Green Level again in our conference tournament,” stated Bruce, which Carlson added onto with, “We’re really going to focus on serving and passing, and we’re going to focus on playing as a team.” With the emphasis being on improvement and keeping morale high, the team will soon be ready for another shot.
Although the Green Hope Volleyball team lost to their rivals, they haven’t lost any hope or high spirits, and are on track to be fierce competitors the next time they face Green Level. It is sure to be a match to remember for both rival teams.
