Let’s a-go! Nintendo has made one of its biggest announcements in a long time. Two years ago, Illumination and Nintendo collaborated to create the “Super Mario Bros. Movie”, which became instantly popular when it came out. After the first Super Mario Galaxy was released on the Switch in Super Mario 3D All-Stars, it is being re-released on the Switch with its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2. Along with these games, almost seven years ago, a Greek mythology-themed game called Hades was released, and its sequel, Hades 2, will be released on the Switch and Switch 2.
Two years ago, on April 5, 2023, Illumination and Nintendo released their movie, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” in which the video game characters embark on an adventure to thwart Bowser’s plan to marry the princess. On Sept 12, 2025, Nintendo announced its official name for the Mario Movie sequel, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.” This news blew up all over social media, and it left fans expecting things included in the movie such as Rosalina being featured and Luigi getting a letter from a mansion at the end of the movie– leading to possibilities for a Luigi’s Mansion Movie. Some fans are also predicting that the sequel hints at a Super Mario Galaxy 3 being in the works. The Super Mario Galaxy movie is leaving people excited for its release and it’s also leaving people wondering what will happen during the movie. The film is set to release in April of 2026, with some new updates related to the movie.
The Super Mario Galaxy video game has gone above and beyond, literally. Super Mario Galaxy has become one of the most popular Mario Games in the 2000s. The game was first released on the Wii in 2007, then its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, was released on the Wii in 2010. Ten years later, the Nintendo Switch released Super Mario 3D All-Stars, containing Super Mario Galaxy, but not Super Mario Galaxy 2. On Sept 12, 2025, Nintendo announced that a combo with Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 will be released on October 2, 2025. They can be purchased together physically for $70, or they can be purchased separately for $40 each on the Nintendo eShop.
Hades, Zeus, Aphrodite, Artemis. These figures are known as Greek Gods, and Nintendo developed a game focused on them. The game was called Hades, which was released in 2018. It focused on a Greek son named Zagreus who had been killing himself multiple times just to see his mother, Persephone. On Sept 25, 2025, Hades will release its sequel, Hades II, where Zagreus’ sister, Melinoe will fight through the underworld in an attempt to defeat the Titan God, Kronos. Along the way, she will have the help of the boons of returning Greek Gods and Goddesses, as well as new ones who didn’t appear in the first Hades game, such as Apollo and Hera.
“Welcome! Welcome New Video Games!” People may recognize that this quote was referenced from Super Mario Galaxy. Many people are excited that their old video games will be playable on the Nintendo Switch and some people are upset that Nintendo isn’t developing a new Mario game. Many Hades fans are excited for Hades II as it originally was only going to be released on the Switch 2. It is now set to be released on both the Switch and Switch 2. Nintendo is looking forward to offering old video games on the Nintendo Switch consoles, and they are also excited to offer the next Mario Movie.
