After Billie Eilish’s hit album “Hit Me Hard And Soft” released on May, 17 2024, she gained unrivaled recognition in a matter of weeks. Shattering her own records with her first studio album “When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go?,” “Hit Me Hard And Soft” debuted at number one on UK Album Charts.
Already a nine time Grammy winner, “Birds of a Feather” earned her a new one after going platinum five times. “Bird of a Feather” topped the charts at number one on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S 200, which excludes the United States in streams and sales.
All ten tracks debuted in the top 100 on Billboard charts, the feature was only achieved by a handful of artists such as Taylor Swift and Drake. Her lowest charted song from the album was “Bittersuite” which placed in at 36 on the Billboard charts.
“Bittersuite” touches on the sensitive topic of unrequited love, encapsulating the feeling of longing while also delving into the emotional tension and restraint that comes with it. She started out the song with a synth that manipulates audio signals to produce unique sounds with soft melodic vocals, followed by heavy slow drums. Through this, she conveys the struggle of unrequited love. She intertwines lyrics from previous tracks towards the end of the song, then adding a seamless transition to her last track “Blue.”
All the tracks were recorded at her brother, Finneas’, home studio. The entire album was written and produced by the sibling duo, who continuously worked together in the past to create all of Billie’s albums. Finneas is also a singer-songwriter who helped produce and write songs for artists like Tate McRae, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars. Working alongside Eilish, they wrote the entirety of “Hit Me Hard And Soft.”
Despite not winning album of the year at the Grammys, she was nominated for seven categories at the American music awards and won in all the categories. Although Billie Eilish was not present at the show to claim her awards she expressed her gratitude.
Apple Music also awarded her artist of the year, this marks the second time Billie Eilish was named artist of the year by Apple Music. She performed live acoustic versions of a few of her songs, some of those including “Wildflower,”, ”The Greatest” and “Birds of a Feather” “Hit Me Hard And Soft” is a revolutionary album that is impacting people all across the globe as “Birds of a Feather” and “Wildflower” still remain in the Billboard’s Hot 100.
