The Carolina Hurricanes have been firing on all cylinders in their past ten games. The Canes have won eight of their last ten games and are currently on a seven-game winning streak. There is a sense of fresh air in the Canes locker room since the trade scandal with Mikko Rantanen is over.
While the Hurricanes have struggled on special teams, they have played phenomenal hockey five-on-five. They have had the help of some players like Canes prospect Scott Morrow, who has broken into the team and has shown impressive puck-playing ability. In six games Morrow has one goal and two assists for three points.
Morrow, 22, has dominated the AHL this season and has scored 13 goals. The U-Mass graduate has played exceptional defense on top of his puck-playing ability and is showing the Canes that he could be an option at defense going into the playoffs.
Goaltending has also been a key factor in the Hurricane’s recent dominance. In his last three games, Pyotr Kochetkov has a GAA of 1.00 and a save PCT of .964. Kochetkov held the Flyers to zero goals this past Saturday, including an outstanding save on Flyers forward Bobby Brink.
Frederik Andersen, along with Kochetkov, has been phenomenal. The Danish goaltender has a save PCT of .932 and a goals against of 1.67 in his past three games. Andersen has dealt with injuries this season but has bounced back emphatically. His main struggle throughout his career has been playing well in the playoffs. As the Hurricanes look forward to the playoffs, Andersen will look for redemption this season.
Taylor Hall has tallied five points in seven games, including two goals, during the seven-game win streak. Since being acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes, Taylor Hall has fit in with the Carolina system and is making the most of his opportunity. The veteran forward has been rumored to potentially come back to the Canes on a multi-year deal, as the Canes like what they see from Hall.
One of the newest additions, Mark Jankowski, is off to a hot start in a new uniform. Jankowski has four goals in four games with Carolina. The 30-year-old forward was acquired for a 6th-round pick from the Nashville Predators. Jankowski did not waste time as he scored two goals in his first game against Winnipeg. He then scored two more goals against the Philidelphia Flyers this past Saturday
